“Helping Kids See A Cancer-Free Tomorrow.”

Throughout the entire month of September, your generous donation will help fund the pediatric cancer research, treatment, and programs lead by the Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Help us provide greater hope to these families – simply “Round It Up“!

CCRF_website_imgFueled by compassion since 1981, the Children’s Cancer Research Fund has revolutionized the way childhood cancer is treated worldwide. Its investments in key research initiatives and patient care have led to innovative treatments, faster cures, new discoveries, and compassionate quality-of-life programs that give hope to pediatric patients and their families.

Over the last thirty years, CCRF provided $130 million to support world-class research, a culture of collaboration and a proven track record of bringing therapies from the lab to children. With the help of the Children’s Cancer Research Fund, this leading-edge research has helped increase the childhood cancer survival rate up to 80 percent. However, cancer remains the nation’s leading cause of death by disease among children. The work of CCRF is not finished until every child facing cancer becomes a healthy survivor.

Your donation provides seed money grants that help researchers advance new ideas and win competitive, multi-million dollar grants from the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute. Every dollar you give leads to an average of $18 in additional funding.

“Wellness and health made extremely fun!”

On July 8th, CRAVE Omaha served up a great start to a full day of fun, adventure, and wellness! As a sponsor for Partnership 4 Kid’s “Amazing Race” event, CRAVE had a blast hosting breakfast for 25 8th grade students before they embarked on their adventure. The event was part of a workshop intended to help the students learn about ways to be mindful about total wellness through the mind, body, and spirit…and make it “extremely fun”!

Partnership 4 Kids (P4K) operates a goal-setting and group mentoring program serving more than 5,000 students in over 20 Omaha public schools. With a vision “to build a community that advances the education of today’s youth and prepares them for tomorrow’s careers”, P4K builds hope for under-served students by helping them create a foundation for success from kindergarten to their careers. CRAVE Omaha was proud to join P4K in support of this great cause to our community, and thanks the organization for everything it does for the young people of Omaha.

Getting bites from Bengals never sounded so good!

The Cincinnati Bengals’ 13th Annual Taste of the NFL event raised around $130,000, equating to 390,000 meals for families in need. Cincinnati is celebrated as one of the NFL event’s most successful organizations, generating over 3 million meals for the hungry. CRAVE Cincinnati was proud to be a part of this extraordinary event and help serve the community who has shown CRAVE so much support.

Auctions, bites, and Bengals…oh my!

The event included past and present Cincinnati Bengals players, coaches, and Ben-Gals cheerleaders. Guests mingled with the team, got photos and autographs, and showed their “Who Dey” spirit! Bengals radio analyst Dave Lapham, the event’s M.C., auctioned off items including everything from  A.J. Green’s cleats to home game tickets. Dinner by-the-bite was served by over 40 Cincinnati restaurants including CRAVE, who came to impress with seared scallops, sweet roasted corn, and asparagus risotto. All Taste of the NFL proceeds benefit the Freestore Foodbank and its efforts to serve the community.

CRAVE Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden are at it again!

Cincinnati’s favorite dynamic-duo teamed up for the Zoo’s Wild About Wine event. If you missed this one, have no fear! Wild About Wine is part of a series whose next “un-corking” takes place on Thursday, September 3rd!

Wild About Wine guests enjoy everything from a unique wine sampling, to live music and up-close animal encounters. Food-by-the-bite was provided from local restaurants including CRAVE, who had a blast serving up wild fare like Spicy Shrimp Gazpacho! Each tasting took place in different locations throughout the Zoo.

Wild About Wine is part of the Cincinnati Zoo’s Toast to the Wild event series comprised of five sampling events: Zootini, Wild About Wine (three dates) and Zoo Brew.  According to the Zoo, over 4,000 attendees in 2014 raised over $150,000 to benefit The Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife (CREW), one of three zoo facilities in the U.S. dedicated to conservation and research. CREW is internationally recognized for their research involving rhinos, small cats, endangered plants, and most recently, polar bears. $30 of every ticket goes directly to support CREW’s research.

At the Cincinnati Zoo, there’s something for everyone. You’ll be re-acquainted with the animals you love and discover some new ones! CRAVE’s wine program shares this philosophy.  At CRAVE you’ll find some of your favorites AND some hidden gems we’d like to share with you. Whether you’re seeking a crisp Riesling to complement Sushi, or a Full bodied, spicy, Super-Tuscan to pair with our steaks, we are sure to have the wine to suit whatever you CRAVE.

CRAVE Cincinnati recently served as a participating restaurant at Zoo La La, an event held at The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden and hosted by the Zoo’s Ambassador Council.

Named the “wildest party for a purpose”, Zoo La La is a fun adults’ night out that provides event guests with live entertainment, raffles of special Zoo experiences, close-up encounters with animals and animal ambassadors in the Zoo’s Africa exhibit, as well as cocktails and “dinner-by-the-bite” selections provided by CRAVE Cincinnati and other local restaurants. CRAVE Cincinnati helped guests tame their hunger with the new lobster rolls and kogi beef tacos!

Funds raised support the Living Classroom Education Access Fund, providing free field trips to schools in need, as well as the Ambassador Council’s Future of the Zoo Fund, which preserves the Zoo for future generations.

CRAVE Omaha recently had a blast sponsoring the fifth annual Junior League of Omaha’s High Heel Dash at Midtown Crossing.

Participants raised pledges and gathered in team costumes outside CRAVE sporting their favorite pair of heels. Teams were divided into four divisions: Women, Men, Boomers & Beyond, and four-person relay and dashed 50 yards in heels in support of a great cause.

All funds raised benefit the Junior League of Omaha, an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

CRAVE hosted a special happy hour for all participants after the fun-filled event!

In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre’s (HOBT) mission to bring people together for the common good through the power of puppet and mask performance. HOBT uses water, flour, newspaper, paint and unlimited imagination to tell stories that explore the struggles and celebrations of human existence. Drawing inspiration from the world’s traditions of puppet and mask theater and its lively roots in transformative ritual and street theater, HOBT creates vital, poetic theater for all ages and backgrounds.

HOBT’s annual MayDay Parade and Festival is in its 41st year as a rite of spring that brings together 50,000 Minneapolis neighbors to build community and celebrate the end of winter.

Throughout our month-long CRAVE Cares partnership with HOBT, we are featuring a different display from past MayDay Festivals and Ceremonies at our four Minneapolis CRAVE locations.

Learn more about each of the creative displays below and check them out at the restaurants!

CRAVE Mall of America  // “Gorgeous Fever of Consciousness – Honor Your Senses”  // 1995 MayDay Festival Parade

The theme responds to the growing development of “virtual reality” experiences. The theme takes its language from Diane Ackerman, who wrote in her 1990 book A Natural History of the Senses, “To begin to understand the gorgeous fever that is consciousness, we must try to understand the senses—and what they teach us about the ravishing world we have privilege to inhabit.” The parade began with the imprisoning of Our Gorgeous Consciousness by the comically pathetic virtual reality world. Then each section went on to celebrate on of the senses, exploding finally with the colorful riot of the Gorgeous Fever of Consciousness. The two tall yellow men we have featured at the restaurant were part of the smell and taste section.

CRAVE Shops at West End // Wonder? Wonder! “Beekeepers of Sweet Wonder” // 2014 MayDay Festival Parade

In this 40th anniversary year, HOBT prepared for the next 40 years by bidding all to enter into this world with senses — sight, hearing smell, touch, taste — open.  Build personal relationships with all kin who crawl, walk, fly, swim, grow up from the ground, swirl above us, and flow in our veins. The tiny bees, missing butterflies, and ‘mysterious’ human illnesses in our neighborhood are warnings in this time of great ecological distress. As we prepare for spring after a long and hard winter, we remember scientist Rachel Carson’s image of the ‘Silent Spring’ and her seminal writings that began a worldwide movement toward the care of our planet. Carson believed that human care of the world grew from one’s sense of wonder and love.

The amazing bees are appreciated in the entryway of CRAVE West End. As the sun shines and flowers grow, pollen appears as tiny suns in the flowers. The bees visit the flowers, wiggling and jiggling in their important work of pollination. Because of the bees, the flowers produce fruit for us to eat. The bees cary nectar back to the hive, and through their ardent organizational abilities, voilá! – they produce sweet honey!
